Support for gala a huge boost to MRI Campaign

YARMOUTH (May 1, 2005) – With the MRI Campaign at $375,000, the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation hopes its inaugural Spring Gala pushes the fundraising well past the halfway mark on its way to its goal of $750,000.

“The community support for the campaign has been inspiring from the beginning,” says MRI campaign fundraising chair Mark Muise. “From the Women’s Auxiliary of Yarmouth Hospital opening donation of $250,000 to smaller donors, everyone understands the importance of the campaign to this region.”

All proceeds from the Spring Gala with its Spring Fantasy theme go to the MRI Campaign. The evening will be black tie optional and take place Wednesday, May 11 beginning with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. at the Rodd Grand Convention Centre.

“The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation Spring Gala is a fun and entertaining new event for Yarmouth,” says Mr. Muise. “The best part is it is an enjoyable way to raise money for a critical piece of hospital equipment.”

Bruce Rainnie, host of CBC News: Canada Now, the supper-hour news program in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, will be the emcee. He was also as the morning man with CJLS Radio from 1989 to 1995.

The Gala will feature a fine menu, a performance by ECMA winner Kendra MacGillivray, background music by the local quartet Jazzotica, a live auction, a silent auction, the Balloon Blitz (with a chance to win a $2,000 Canadian Tire gift certificate), and the Diamond Draw (with a chance to win a dinner ring valued at $3,000 compliments of Crescent Jewelers).

“What has really helped make this event move forward has been the support of our sponsors,” adds Mr. Muise. “From local media such as CJLS and Transcontinental Media to Rodd Hotels & Resorts, Crescent Jewellers, the Real Estate Store, Spears & MacLeod Pharmasave, Tusket Toyota, Canadian Tire & Canadian Tire Foundation for Families, and Pink Star Murphy Barro, the corporate community has been there for the campaign.”

Sponsorship also means there are no costs to cover for the gala, so 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the fundraising campaign, he adds.
The meal includes appetizers, a complimentary glass of bubbly, a three-course meal with a choice of Cornish hen or seafood medley as an entree, and complimentary wine.

Tickets can be purchased at the foundation office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.  After hours, a message can be left at 749-1669. Tax receipts will be issued for approximately half the ticket price.
