YARMOUTH (March 28, 2006) – The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation’s annual Spring Gala will Frolic Under the Sea to raise money for new blood pressure monitors for the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. The fundraiser will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the Rodd Grand Convention Centre.
“Last year’s Spring Fantasy Gala raised in excess of $28,000 towards the purchase of an MRI machine for our region,” says Suzanne Babin-Muise, Chair of the Gala. “The goal this year is to raise enough money to purchase at least six monitors.”
The hospital needs eight new blood pressure monitors, says David Arenburg, Chair of the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation. “They are on the Yarmouth Regional Hospital priority list.”
“The Spring Gala will be a fun, formal affair,” says Ms. Babin-Muise. “Gentlemen may choose to wear a tuxedo, dress suit and tie or sports coat and tie. Ladies may choose a gown or cocktail dress.”
The evening will also feature a full slate of local talent and Master of Ceremonies Fraser Mooney Jr. will move the event along in a humorous, efficient manner.
Nancy Hood, a music teacher and musician, will set the tone for the evening by playing the harp while guests arrive and are having cocktails.
Pianist Paul Saulnier will provide dinner music. Mr. Saulnier is a nationally renowned musician and composer from West Pubnico.
The feature entertainment will be Chimera, a local singing group comprised of Wendy Siddall, Ginny Gobien and Jean Vallillee-Muise, all veterans of Th’YARC musical productions.
“The venue committee has been working very hard to create an undersea environment at the hotel for the evening,” says Ms. Babin-Muise. “The evening will feature a treasure chest full of live and silent auction items, savoury dishes and outstanding entertainment, all set in King Neptune’s Domain.”
The meal will include assorted breads, summer salad, stuffed roast pork loin or Haddock Florentine with lobster cheese sauce, potato croquettes and julienne vegetables, wine and fresh fruit crêpe with cream cheese filling.
After dinner there is the live auction, silent auction, the Balloon Blitz (with a chance to win a $2,000 Canadian Tire gift certificate and gift certificates from Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave), and the Diamond Draw (with a chance to win a dinner ring valued at $3,000 compliments of Crescent Jewelers).
Presenting sponsor Rodd Hotels & Resorts is ensuring people will be tapping their feet and clapping their hands with the performance by Chimera. Thanks to support of other sponsors such as Canadian Tire, Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave, Crescent Jewelers, Johnson Inc., Radio CJLS Ltd., Transcontinental Media, Tusket Toyota Ltd., Pink Star Murphy Barro and Ellis Print Ltd., the fundraiser is well on its way to success, adds Mr. Arenburg.
Tickets are $125 per plate and are available at the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation office by calling 749-1669. Tax receipts will be issued for approximately half the ticket price.
