What is Dragon Boat Racing?

A dragon boat team consists of a maximum of 20 paddlers sitting two abreast, plus a Steerperson who steers the dragon boat from the rear and a drummer. A team of paddlers work in unison to propel the boat forward from a standing start, the aim being to reach the finish line in the fastest time!

The Lake Milo Society is organizing this great opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day, in support of the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation!

How much does it cost to register?
$420.00 registration fee for each team (team consists of up to 21 persons). Teams must register by September 28, 2016

Do I need to be an experienced paddler?
You do not have to be experienced to participate (Dragon Boats are very stable)

Who would provide the Dragon Boat?
The Dragon Boats will be provided by Lake Milo Aquatic Club
Personal floatation devices will be provided by Lake Milo Aquatic Club
The Steersperson for each boat will be provided

Creating a team – Who can register
Dragon Boat teams should consist of at least 10 but no more than 20 paddlers and a drummer.
All participants 16 years of age and older are welcome
All registrants and race times will be posted on race day at Lake Milo Aquatic Club.

Should there be a team captain for each team?
Yes a representative from each team should be selected to act as the team captain. Responsible for communication with event officials/team mates and to make sure all paddlers on team have signed a waiver before paddling

Team uniforms
Teams can create their own t-shirts (not necessary). Splashing will happen. Old sneakers or sandals, crocs are great. Whatever is most comfortable for the paddler. Change of clothes/ rain gear. Be prepared!

Practice sessions
If anyone wants to practice, Lake Milo Aquatic Club is offering FREE paddling for the public on TUESDAYS 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm and THURSDAYS 6:00 pm
