Many of these tests are routine and regular, but sometimes the professionals in the lab are called upon to diagnose serious conditions urgently.

Current practice is to refer physical slides to pathologists for review and diagnosis. However, the transport times involved can cause unacceptable delays, forcing patients to wait for diagnoses or even postpone their treatment.
