2024 Sou’West Walkathon
Raising Funds for a Fetal Heart Monitor
Fetal heart monitors are vital pieces of equipment that let medical care teams know how the baby is doing in the womb. Yarmouth Regional Hospital is the maternity, labour, and delivery site for residents of Sou’West Nova. Each year an average of 300 babies are delivered in the Women and Children’s Health unit and fetal heart rate monitoring is performed during every pregnancy and delivery.
Women and Children’s Health needs five fetal heart monitors to replace ones that are outdated and nearing end-of-life. The science of maternal-fetal medicine is ever changing, and with these changes come advances designed to make pregnancies less risky and more successful for both expectant mothers and their babies.
The goal of the Sou’West Walkathon is to raise funds towards the $39,000 purchase price of a new state-of-the-art fetal heart monitor which will provide a higher accuracy and earlier detection of emerging fetal compromise. Will you help us?

This year’s Sou’West Walkathon is a walk in the park — literally!
Join us on October 19th for a 6km walk through Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park.
Including a forest trail section, this is a relaxing walk for most age levels and hosts a wide variety of plant life, birds, and animals. Enjoy the cooler temperatures, the crisp leaves, and the warm earthy colours while taking strides to improve health care for friends and family.
Online pre-registration is encouraged. Check-in and on-site registration begin at 9:30am, walk starts at 10:30am.
