YHF Community Grants

On March 10, 2021, Yarmouth Hospital Foundation (YHF) announced that an anonymous donor had gifted the foundation with the largest gift ever received in the foundation’s 50-year history: an incredible $22 million. The donation was entrusted to the foundation to administer “to improve the provision of health care in the area served by Yarmouth Regional Hospital”. This directive aligns perfectly with the mission and goals of YHF.

Prior to the public announcement, a new Healthcare Enhancement Endowment (HEE) was established through the foundation’s pre-existing investment processes. YHF Board policy directs 15% of investment revenue (approximately $150,000) annually from the HEE for Community Grants to improve the provision of health care for individuals living in Yarmouth, Digby, and Shelburne counties.

Commitment to Health Care Community Fund- Grants

 

To qualify for a grant from the YHF Commitment to Health Care Community Fund, your community initiative’s primary purpose is to improve the provision of health care and therefore wellness within the Tri-Counties and must meet the following criteria:
  • be a registered charity or a recognized non-profit organization in Yarmouth, Shelburne, or Digby counties
  • clearly enhance health care services, projects, or programs within the Tri-Counties
  • clearly show future funding stability without the need for a repeat grant
  • intend to use the grant to improve health care services, not to replace alternate sources of core funding from municipalities, or either the provincial or federal government
  • align with the priorities of Nova Scotia Health
  • come with a letter of endorsement from a qualified health services specialist (excluding elected officials)

Preference will be given to projects that:

  • will only require a one-time contribution to their project or program
  • are established and can show additional partners and resources beyond this grant
