Yarmouth Hospital Foundation is committed to bringing new medical technology to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital this Spring with the purchase of a MOLLI® system to help fight breast cancer. (Cost is $111,543)
The MOLLI® system is an innovative technology that allows radiologists to mark cancerous lesions with a MOLLI® marker, a tiny magnetic tissue marker roughly the size of a sesame seed. The localization procedure takes about five minutes and can happen within 30 days prior to the surgery.
In the OR the surgeon uses the MOLLI® wand to pick up the magnetic signal from the marker and sends images and sounds to MOLLI® tablet that guides the surgeon to the exact location of the lesion. Using the MOLLI® system surgeons remove lesions more efficiently with increased patient comfort.
